Candyman - Official Trailer is Out, Here's What To Watch Before You See it

Candyman (2020) is not a remake but a continuation of the story from the original 1992 film of the same name. Some may not have seen the film and currently, it is viewable on Netflix. While the original was good enough to get to more sequels, like many movie franchises the first one was the best.

It looks like Producer Jordan Peele recognizes that and has Director, Nia DaCosta bringing horror fans the iconic character Tony Todd made famous in the original to new fans. The original film is 28 years old, so if you want to do your homework, the most required viewing of the film as it stands now is the original film from 92', since it seems to be revisiting current day Chicago and where the projects of Cabrini Green once stood.

In a time where it seems remakes for horror seem bankable after the success of IT: Chapter Two (2019) Revisiting where it all started is a nice take on an original story that came at a time in horror where Jason Voorhees, Freddy Kruger, and Michael Myers were the kings of horror. While the sequels Candyman 2: Farewell to the Flesh (1995), and Candyman 3: Day of the Dead (1999) gave some more background into the history of where Candyman comes from, his whole premise is making doubters believe he exists.

Considering the traumatic events of the original film, it's nice to see Vanessa A. Williams return as Anne-Marie McCoy. So it looks like the protagonist of this film is her young son Anthony.

If you have not seen the original, the following is a spoiler.

In the original film, Candyman uses Anthony to lure Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) into "being his victim" as she seems to have a resemblance to Caroline, the woman Candyman was tortured and killed for. Lyle saves Anthony and returns him to her, but at the cost of her own life. When the film closes, McCoy and son are seen paying their respects to Lyle at her funeral.

With this being 28 years after that story, it could be really cool to see where those characters are now and how they handled the trauma of Candyman. There are sure to be some flashbacks in this, but since this is the first trailer for a movie that comes out in June, there are likely more details to come.
